1 whole chicken (1,8kg)
1 can of beer (half full)
3 Tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp fresh thyme, rosemary or oregano chopped
salt and pepper
Directions
Preheat the oven to 180 C or arrange the coals on opposite sides of the Weber braai.
Rub the chicken with olive oil, herbs, salt and pepper.
Open the beer can and put a few sprigs of the herbs inside.
Stand the Chicken up on the beer can and insert it into the cavity of the chicken. It will now look as if the bird is standing up! Put it into the oven and leave it to cook for about an hour to an hour and a half.
To check if the bird is fully cooked make a cut in the skin between the thigh and breast. If the juices that flow out are clear then it’s good to go. If there is a bit of blood leave it to cook for a while longer.
Take care when removing the chicken from the oven as the can and liquid inside is still piping hot.
