{"id":27708,"date":"2024-09-13T09:55:27","date_gmt":"2024-09-13T09:55:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bluffmeatsupply.co.za\/?post_type=recipe&#038;p=27708"},"modified":"2025-11-25T12:49:13","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T12:49:13","slug":"bangers-and-mash-with-onion-gravy","status":"publish","type":"recipe","link":"https:\/\/bluffmeatsupply.co.za\/touchscreen\/index.php\/recipe\/bangers-and-mash-with-onion-gravy\/","title":{"rendered":"Bangers and Mash with Onion Gravy"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Ingredients<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>8 BMS pork bangers<\/li>\n<li>1 tablespoon sunflower oil<\/li>\n<li>small knob of butter<\/li>\n<li>3 small onions, finely sliced<\/li>\n<li>1 thyme sprig<\/li>\n<li>1 bay leaf<\/li>\n<li>pinch of sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 glass red wine<\/li>\n<li>400ml beef stock with shot or cube for mash<\/li>\n<li>1 kg potatoes, peeled and cut into 8 pieces<\/li>\n<li>50ml milk and 50ml cream<\/li>\n<li>1 heaped tsp plain flour<\/li>\n<li>1 tablespoon red wine vinegar<\/li>\n<li>50g cold butter, diced<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp soy sauce<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Method<\/h4>\n<ol start=\"1\" type=\"1\">\n<li>Preheat the oven to 200\u00b0C. Brown sausages in an ovenproof pan for 8-10 minutes, then set aside. Add butter, onions, thyme, bay leaf, and sugar to the pan. Stir, place the sausages back on top, and roast for 20 minutes, turning halfway.<\/li>\n<li>Boil potatoes in salted water for 10-12 minutes until tender. Drain, heat the milk, and mash the potatoes into the milk. Mix in butter until smooth and fluffy.<\/li>\n<li>Once the sausages are done, remove them. Caramelize onions, stir in flour, vinegar, red wine, soy sauce, and stock. Simmer until gravy thickens.
